Steeve proposed bleed-off excess air before the rocket's air intake and, through thousands of tiny holes in the body, create an "air lubrication" that would reduce overall drag and kinetic heating. Since the rocket launched from a container, the risk of contamination of the holes before flight was minimal. Documentation for the prototypes remained classified for a long time.
