A high-power microwave emitter inside the laser ring pushes ionized particles out of the channel, creating a vacuum and reducing drag. By changing the direction of the microwave radiation (and the gas density in the channel), control torques are created at high speed. The dense air at the boundary of the channel (slightly larger than the rocket's diameter) is captured by an air intake and fed into a ramjet nuclear engine as the working fluid.
